The Directorate General of Migration Management under the Ministry of Interior has begun granting long-term residence permits to Crimean Tatar Turks who have been included under the “Turkish Descent” status. Previously, this status had been granted to Ahıska, Uyghur, and Bulgarian Turks, and now Crimean Tatar Turks are also eligible to receive long-term residence permits.
Under normal conditions, a foreigner who is not a Turkish citizen was required to reside in Turkey continuously for 8 years in order to be eligible for a long-term residence permit. However, following the inclusion of Crimean Tatar Turks under the “Turkish Descent” status, the requirement of 8 years of uninterrupted residence will no longer apply to them. As of August 2022, the new regulation allowing Crimean Tatar Turks to obtain long-term residence permits without fulfilling the 8-year residence condition has been implemented.
Crimean Tatar Turks who come to Turkey and meet the necessary requirements will be able to obtain long-term residence permits without the need to complete 8 years of residence. Those who wish to benefit from this regulation can apply to the provincial directorates of migration management with the required documents.
