In May 2022, with a decision taken by the ministry, Uyghur Turks are no longer required to fulfill the 5-year residence condition to acquire Turkish citizenship. Uyghur Turks have been granted the right to become Turkish citizens exceptionally, without the need to purchase real estate or meet the requirement of being married to a Turkish citizen for 3 years.
Thus, the pathway for Uyghur Turks to acquire Turkish citizenship without an interview has been opened. With this decision made by the ministry for Uyghur Turks who have sought refuge in Turkey, acquiring Turkish citizenship will now be easier and faster compared to before.
According to the temporary article added to the Turkish Citizenship Law No. 5901, Uyghur Turks residing in Turkey under international protection status can obtain Turkish citizenship by submitting all required documents completely to the Ministry of Interior and applying accordingly.
Uyghur Turks who submit the required documents fully and on time will be able to acquire Turkish citizenship without being subjected to an interview.
